Script

Acrobatic Gymnastics – Train Hard or Go Home!

Documentary trailer script:

Trailer opens with a number of Gymnasts warming up  stretching and Running.  (approx 30 seconds)

Narrator:  Acrobatic Gymnastics!  Train hard of go home!  The gymnasts here at South Tyneside gymnastics club train 6 days a week 3 to 4 hours a day.  No mean feat considering most are at school or college and some of the older gymnasts working full time.

                                                                       ************

Scene moves to base gymnasts lifting weights, and conditioning and top gymnasts working on pedestals. (approx 1min 30 seconds)

Narrator: Acrobatic gymnastics is often nicknamed "ACRO"  -   This sport is not an Olympic gymnastic discipline although, possibly due to its recent growth in popularity, there are several campaigns to include it with some suggesting the removal of Rhythmic Gymnastics to make room for Acrobatics. However for the first time, it will feature in the 2015 European Olympic Games.
Acrobatic Gymnastics is a sport with two entirely different types of athletes, bases and tops.  Bases are aiming for muscular hypertrophy, and a top will build lean muscle mass and increases inflexibility.

                                                                     ****************

Scene moves to Pairs & Trio’s prepping & setting various moves. (approx 1 min 30 seconds)

Narrator:  Acrobatic gymnasts perform in pairs or groups Men’s women’s & Mixed Pairs and men’s & women’s groups.   In each partnership the gymnasts different sizes will be balanced to complement each other in order to carry out the complex moves. Some will mainly carry out supporting and pitching (throwing) roles, and are known as bases. They are then balanced with smaller more flexible gymnasts who are the 'tops'.

**************

Scene changes to various gymnasts performing sections of their routines which will include elements & connecting dance.  (Approx 1min 30 seconds)

Narrator:  .  And will perform 3 routines in Competiton:
Balance -  routines that require strength, poise, elegance and flexibility. Gymnasts will combine into towers, or pyramids with the tops holding a particular position balanced on their bases.
Dynamic) - routines that demonstrate power, strength and grace and showt he phases of spring, flight, rotation and landing. bases in the partnership throw their top through the air to perform a series of somersaults or twists.
Combined - a third routine will be performed when reaching the final of a competition  that combines both Balance and Dynamic moves.
Trailer will fade out with footage a partnership walking out onto the floor at a major competiton.

Pitch Feedback

  • variety of footage - good - should be from various angles.
  • use of text - for info? or could be more visually interesting?
  • different perspectives from different subjects? - different gymnasts? friends? family?
  • music- good choice of using instrumentals - not to interfere with interviews
  • editing of music- will be effective to best show off routine - get response from the audience
  • audience- interested in gymnastics - people interested in training - how to broaden range of audience
  • Look at more documentaries, not just dance documentaries.
  • Suitable name
  • intense/ interesting
  • dramatic music gives an anticipating effect.
  • unique idea
